Ega Pro Index: Time for a Review

"Where are the women?" sang Patrick Juvet in 1977. In tech, the answer is clear: they are underrepresented and still too often invisible.

Like Patrick, we regularly ask ourselves: where are they? And how can we integrate them into the company? At Wanadev, as of March 2025, only 18% of our workforce is women, and if we look specifically at technical profiles... it drops to 4%.

First and foremost, we strive to create and maintain a welcoming, fair, and respectful work environment for everyone. We provide training (on sexist and sexual violence), stay informed (by participating in the equity mural), and share knowledge by taking part in workshops like the one organized by Ada Tech School on February 19th, or speaking at roundtables (such as Tiffany Hamelin at Indie Dev Day on September 28th, 2024, in Barcelona).

We regularly raise awareness about diversity issues, gender equality, and women's rights, particularly on March 8th.

This year, a new poster appeared in the break room titled "Pioneers of Computing: Who Are They?"

  • Which figure is responsible for the world's first personal digital assistant?
  • Who is behind the machine considered the first computer?
  • Who revolutionized the world of video games and created the Point-and-Click genre?

These are the kinds of questions we tried to answer. Did we think of men? Certainly! But it turns out, they were all women! A great opportunity to (re)discover these women who advanced the world of technology and computing, yet are still largely unknown.

And then, like every year, we calculate our Gender Equality Index, an opportunity to put the topic back on the table 🙂

What is it, and what is it for?

The Ega Pro Index is a tool that measures the gender pay gap within the company. The index assigns an overall score out of 100 and is calculated based on the following criteria:

1. The gender pay gap: The difference in salary between women and men in equivalent roles and age groups.

2. The distribution of salary increases: The analysis of salary raises given to women and men.

3. The number of promotions: The proportion of women and men who received a promotion.

4. The presence of women among the highest salaries: The proportion of women in the top 10% of the highest-paid employees.

5. Gender parity in salary increases after maternity leave: Considering the pay gaps for women returning from maternity leave.

In 2024, Wanadev achieved a score of 92 out of 100: a reflection of our commitment to reducing inequalities and promoting an inclusive culture.

The breakdown is as follows:

Beyond the numbers, we firmly believe that professional equality is a key driver in strengthening the cohesion and performance of our company.

"Unfortunately, women are underrepresented in engineering and more generally in tech and science fields. As for me, having followed a math/computer science track with only 17% women, I became very familiar with male-dominated work environments. That didn’t stop me from proving my worth and rising to the top of my class. It turns out, boys aren't the only ones who do well in math 😜 When I was in high school, I had a strong interest in graphic arts, interior architecture, as well as in science. On the advice of my teachers, I chose to pursue my studies in the sciences. Today, I have a job that combines several of my passions. I contribute to the development of the Kazaplan software – a tool for interior layout – through web development and graphic rendering tasks. And although my team isn't yet gender-balanced, Wanadev is a safe place where it's great to work as a woman and where we feel valued. After 3 years at Wanadev, I have no regrets about my decision as a high school student. And I’m excited that more and more women are showing interest in scientific fields."

Manon, developer at Wanadev since August 2022
